LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FOR AMAZONAS BIRDWATCHING ECO TOUR
Luiz Fernando dos Santos Carvalho and his associates are travel guides in the Manaus region of
Brazil, and I highly recommend their expertise. Early this past spring, he and his team provided
an amazingly wonderful tour of that region of Amazonia through the Amazonas Birdwatching
Eco Tour that was arranged for a small group of American travelers. On that trip I experienced a
“dream adventure” that ranks at the very top of the many other travel experiences I have had
throughout the world.

The trip was flawlessly organized and safely and competently orchestrated. From the very first
encounter with Luiz by e-mail to ask questions about details of air travel, payment and other
details, I was confident this would be a great experience. Because flying to Manaus can be a bit
complicated, I arrived a day before the actual trip began. As a result, Luiz met me at the airport
at 1:00 a.m. (along with two others from the larger group) and delivered us in his private vehicle
to a nearby hotel. The following day he arranged an adventure that actually was a highlight of
the entire experience. Luiz and his associates are knowledgeable birders and successfully went
to great lengths to show us a species of which I was totally unfamiliar. With Luiz in the driver’s
seat of his own vehicle, we traveled that day to places in the countryside that, sadly, we would
have missed seeing had we not arrived a day early. The day-long add-on experience surpassed
our expectations and was priced fairly. Luiz and his associates demonstrated a vast knowledge
of the outer Manaus area, and our small group was very comfortable with his warm and friendly
personality and his consideration for our safety and comfort.

The actual original trip I had planned to experience with the rest of the larger group was equally
full of remarkable experiences. Luiz and his colleagues proved themselves adept in every way at
managing a larger group (12), just as with our original small group of three. All accommodations
were appropriately adequate for the areas we ventured, and our longest stays were without
question unexpectedly top-of -the-line accommodations. The food we were served at every
meal was delicious at every venue.
If I decide to return to the Manaus area for another experience there, I will definitely contact
Amazonas Birdwatching Eco Tour so I can travel with Luiz and his associates. There simply could
not have been a better way for me to spend my week in Amazonia.
